Tech Conference This Week at Duling School

Jackson, Mississippi — Sandbox Live is two-day technology conference (March 31 and April
1) that seeks to draw attention to the app and internet business economy in and around
Jackson and Mississippi. Led by Mantle., a coworking company and technology incubator based
in Fondren, Sandbox Live is hosted by over twenty partners which have banded together to
feature tech startups based out of Mantle. Inc.ubator and from around Mississippi.
The event will also feature music and independent films live from Duling School’s Auditorium.
The event is free to attend with food and drinks available a la carte from Fondren area
restaurants. Access to networking events and discounted food and drinks are available by pre-
purchasing All Access Passes from Proceeds from Sandbox Live will
benefit a new coding and development school aimed at Jackson high school seniors to be
named Sandbox Prep.
“We are a tech-first event this year,” says Christopher Lomax, founder of Mantle. a coworking
space and technology incubator in the Fondren area of Jackson. “However, we are hoping to
sow the seeds for a wider conference that could include a more in-depth music and film repertoire in future years. The goal is to create a community organized and embraced conference to bring awareness to the mass of creatives walking around Fondren, Jackson, and Mississippi, whether those creatives are in tech, music, or film.”
Mantle. and Sandbox Live through the technology portion of the conference seek to draw
attention to the app and internet business economy in-and-around Jackson and Mississippi. The
conference is hosted by over twenty partners who have banded together to feature tech startups based out of Mantle. Inc.ubator and from around Mississippi. Key production partners include Ardenland, First Commercial Bank, Butler Snow, Cabot Lodge, and Wier Boerner Allin Architecture.
Sandbox Live will feature three technology panels, including a Technology-Education Panel led
by ReThink Mississippi of the William Winter Institute, a Developer Panel led by the Jackson
Area Web and App Developers (JAWAD), and a technology investing panel led by Boom
Jackson Magazine. The tech-side of the conference will also feature two keynote speakers, one
hackathon, and a showcase of seed-stage technology companies from Mantle. and around Mississippi.
The first keynote speaker is Nick Moran from Chicago’s New Stack Ventures and host of The
Full Ratchet, one of the countries most popular podcasts on venture capital investing. Nick will
be chronicling Chicago’s rise from a tech-venture after-thought to a premier tech city. The
second speaker is Rachael Qualls, CEO of Venture360 and a former angel network founder,
and venture fund general and limited partner. Rachael will be sharing her experiences as an
entrepreneur, founder, and venture capitalist as she has a unique perspective from both sides of
the venture table.
A very exciting Jazz experience and two film screening opportunities will be sprinkled into the
tech lineup on Saturday starting at 10 a.m. at Duling Auditorium. Sandbox Live will be featuring
a high school jazz program and a special sneak-peak of next week’s Township Jazz Festival
with Late Night Jazz with Raphael Semmes, named 2017 Jazzman of the Year by Jackson Free
Press. Two independent Mississippi filmmakers will be screening and chatting about their films
as well.
Jackson local Roderick Red will be screening and commenting on his social documentary,
Mississippi Left Me Out, which examines Mississippi’s healthcare choices. Finally, there will be a
first-time special screening of Kudzu Zombies. This Mississippi film sponsored by Crossroads
Film Festival was shot in Oxford, Mississippi and is a perfect fit for Sandbox Live as it features
two Mississippi bands and will be rolling out a special technology experience alongside the final
release of the movie.
A number of premium events are available over the course of the weekend, such as networking
events, a technology investor rooftop reception and wine tasting hosted by Fondren Cellars, a
vodka tasting and patio party hosted by Cathead Vodka to kick off the weekend, and a “Silent
Film” version of The Wizard of Oz presented by Butler Snow on the Duling Lawn. Premium All
